What is a MotoQuest Explorer guided adventure? It’s an itinerary which is purposefully scheduled to have two or more nights at the same location so riders can enjoy a region without packing and unpacking every day. Guests have the opportunity to leave their luggage behind at the hotel during out-rides since we’re coming back to the same spot, and explore the region. What a concept!
You can see this format used in our all-paved Southern California Inland Explorer, as well as our dual sport Death Valley Explorer , Moab Explorer Scouting, and Colorado Rocky Mountain High Explorer adventures. One of our longest-running itineraries, the exhilarating  Alaska Backcountry Explorer dual sport adventure, is also part of this collection. Guests appreciate the option to either experience more by motorcycle with their guide, hit the road solo, or just take a day to take advantage of off-the-motorcycle activities.
Our latest addition to the line up which we would like to introduce today:
Southern California Coastal Explorer
Scouting Adventure
March 6 – 14, 2021
Motorcyclists must have designed the roads close to the coastline between Los Angeles and San Francisco, because they’re a curve-lover’s dream come true.  We’ve curated this program to ride not only the best roads from one destination to the next, but the out-rides are truly spectacular!
MotoQuest founder Phil Freeman will guide guests up, down, and all around the coastal region of California. Since this is a scouting trip, he will be riding some of these roads for the first time, taking notes on how to refine this fresh adventure for future guests, and possibly backtracking with a U-turn or two. Don’t forget to bring your sense of humor and ability to work as a team along with your riding gear.
Riding Day 1:
After our first morning pre-ride meeting in Long Beach, we’re heading out of the city to explore the curvy roads of the Malibu hills and enjoying a few side-roads and scenic vistas along the way to Ojai. Stay in Ojai.
Riding Day 2:
We’re leaning into as many scenic routes as possible on this adventure, so expect winding country roads and byways as we make our way to Morro Bay. Stretch your legs after the ride with a stroll out to the iconic Morro Rock, and check out the otters and sea lions in the bay. Stay in Morro Bay.
Riding Day 3:
Leave your luggage behind and participate in a jaunt with the group, or relax in town. For those joining us on the road again, we’re heading inland to explore more country roads of San Luis Obispo County. We’ll roll through farmland, past vineyards and cattle ranches before returning to our hotel in Morro Bay.
Riding Day 4:
We’re taking the fun route north! Our ride to Monterey will be full of twists and turns, and perhaps an off-shoot or two. Unpack for our two night stay in Monterey.
Riding Day 5:
Leave your luggage behind and enjoy another jaunt with the group or relax in town. We’re meandering through the infamously curvaceous terrain south of San Francisco before returning to Monterey for the night.
Riding Day 6:
We’re cruising south on the Pacific Coast Highway, making it easy to pull off for spectacular viewpoints, so keep your camera with you today! We’re riding through Big Sur, and stopping to check out the elephant seals in San Simeon on our way to Santa Barbara. Stay in Santa Barbara.
Riding Day 7:
From the coastline, over more hills and through a few last canyons, we’re going to have a bit more fun before returning the motorcycles to the barn. Break bread with your new friends one more time. Stay in Long Beach.
