Requirements for a Motorcycle Rental

  • Valid motorcycle license (must be present at the time of pick-up)
  • 21 years of age or older
  • 3 years riding experience on a same size motorcycle 
  • Damage Security Deposit on major credit card. Amount is equal to maximum exposure listed as Level 1 Damage Waiver on rental tables.

Reservation, Deposit, & Balance

  • Deposit – MotoQuest requires a non-refundable reservation deposit at the time of booking to confirm a reservation. This deposit is applied towards your balance.
    • A $500 reservation deposit is required to confirm any rental from 1 – 19 days
      • If the total cost of a rental is less than $500 full payment is required to secure the booking
    • A $1,000 reservation deposit is required to confirm any rental 20 days or over

  • Balance – MotoQuest requires your rental balance to be paid 30 days prior to pickup. Rentals with unpaid balances inside of 30 days can be canceled by MotoQuest with no refund of the deposit.

  • Protect your deposit and balance – expect the unexpected. If you would like to protect your deposit and balance as well as other travel plans please consider trip interruption and travel insurance through your credit card or a third party.

  • State mandatory liability insurance

  • Model Guarantee 
    • MotoQuest does not intentionally over book and we do not charge extra to guarantee the model you have asked for. When you reserve a unit with MotoQuest we set an actual unit aside for you. In very rare situations a maintenance issue might prevent a motorcycle from going out as planned and we work hard with our customers to make sure they get a resolution they are happy with. Our fleet is large enough that most maintenance issues cause no disruption to our rental obligations.

  • Unlimited miles 
    • Help set MotoQuest up for success. We complete service on an assumption that most riders go about 250 miles per day. If you plan to exceed this let us know so we can make sure the motorcycle is prepared properly.

  • Route Consultation
    • MotoQuest wants to set you up for the best ride possible. Our Customer Service Representatives are all riders and happy to help you make the best route possible. Please ask about scheduling a route consultation after your rental is held with a deposit.

  • Panniers on all units 
    • Suzuki DL650, BMW F 750 GS, BMW F 850 GS and BMW R 1250 GS all use 35 liter Pelican style panniers.
      • Top case with backrest available on request
    • BMW R 1200 RT and R 1250 RT use the standard BMW side cases and Large Top cases

  • Basic crash protection on dual sport models 
    • Suzuki DL650, BMW F 750 GS, BMW F 850 GS and BMW R 1250 GS all come standard with hand guards, engine guards and skid plates.

  • Basic Roadside Assistance in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
    • Included in the Encore Roadside assistance is the following:
      • Towing at a fixed and fare rate
      • Emergency fuel or fluid delivery
      • Electrical Jumpstart
    • MotoQuest does not cover expenses for recovery outside of our roadside assistance program.
    • In the event of what would be considered an avoidable mechanical failure the roadside assistance fees are paid by MotoQuest.
    • In the event the necessity for recovery was caused by the rider the fees associated with the roadside assistance would be the responsibility of the rider and will be deducted from the Damage Security Authorization. If the roadside assistance exceeds the Damage Security Authorization total then it is still the responsibility of the rider.

  • Customer Orientation
    • Every rider will receive a demonstration of the controls and safety features of the motorcycle. The orientation will also show you critical documents for insurance, roadside assistance and border crossings if applicable.

  • Luggage Storage at our facility
    • MotoQuest will provide storage for customer luggage free of charge, however at customers’ own risk.

  • Additional Driver
    • One additional driver is permitted at no extra charge. Same rental requirements as primary renter.

Not Included in the Rental Rate

  • Helmets and Safety Gear
    • MotoQuest does not provide helmets to renters. Riders and passengers are encouraged to bring their own helmets for comfort and safety. DOT approved helmets are required for all riders and passengers by MotoQuest in all locations independent of state laws.

  • Fuel
    • Fuel costs are the renters responsibility. MotoQuest claims no responsibility for motorcycle fuel consumption and mileage. If you do not return the motorcycle at the same level as it departed then MotoQuest will charge a $35 flat refueling free.

  • Tolls, fines and violations
    • Any violations or unpaid tolls having occurred during your rental contract period will be automatically charged against your Credit Card on file with an additional $25 administration fee and any accumulated late fees.

  • Shipping of luggage or left behind goods
    • We will ship these to you and pass the cost on to you directly with 20% handling fee.

  • Tire Damages
    • Renter is responsible for any and all costs associated with tire damage or punctures during the rental duration.

Maintenance Responsibility

The rider is responsible for basic maintenance and reporting mechanical failures and damage to the motorcycle to MotoQuest immediately. Customers may be held responsible for mechanical damage due to negligence in motorcycle operation or failure to provide normal maintenance. By reporting mechanical failures and damage to the motorcycle directly to MotoQuest we can help keep the cost of these issues low. Renter should not seek independent repair without approval from MotoQuest. Seeking and approving independent repair without consultation from MotoQuest will result in refusal to reimburse the repairs.

Motorcycle Substitution

MotoQuest does not intentionally over book and we do not charge extra to guarantee the model you have asked for. When you reserve a unit with MotoQuest we set an actual unit aside for you. In very rare situations a maintenance issue might prevent a motorcycle from going out as planned and we work hard with our customers to make sure they get a resolution they are happy with. Our fleet is large enough that most maintenance issues cause no disruption to our rental obligations. MotoQuest reserves the right to substitute the motorcycle confirmed to the rental customer. Should MotoQuest not be able to provide confirmed motorcycle a similar or better model will be provided to the customer. This constitutes the maximum liability of MotoQuest.

Damage Security Deposit

  • A Damage Security Deposit will be taken at pick-up (authorization only) and must be processed via valid credit card (Debit cards will not be accepted). Please reference the location specific rental rate pages for Damage Security Deposit amount as it varies per unit.

  • Damages to Motorcycles 
    • When a rental is returned it will be inspected by a MotoQuest representative. If damage is discovered during this inspection or before the next rental the entire Damage Security Deposit will be held until a complete inspection can be completed on the motorcycle. Upon completion of inspection and damage estimate the necessary amount to complete repairs plus labor will be kept from the Damage Security Deposit. The difference between the repair order and the Damage Security Deposit will be refunded to the card used for the Damage Security Deposit. If restrictions listed in the terms and conditions and rental agreement are not honored rider gives MotoQuest permission to charge the card used for the Damage Security Deposit for the total cost of repairs in excess of the original deposit.

Rental Restrictions – Violation of listed restrictions will result in total loss of the Damage Security Deposit and voids all Damage Waivers and the rider will be held liable for all damages or replacement of motorcycle if necessary

  • Ownership and Use
    • Use of the rented Motorcycle is restricted to the licensed person(s) that signed the Rental Contract 

  • Abandonment of Vehicle 
    • Defined as terminating your rental other than the drop off location and time indicated in your rental agreement. 

  • Off-Road motorcycling 
    • Renters are forbidden from using rental motorcycles off-road without disclosure and permission from MotoQuest. Doing so will result in complete loss of the Damage Security Deposit. Disclosure and permission for riding a MotoQuest rental motorcycle off-road is defined by paying the Rough Terrain Surcharge of $300. This includes knobbie style tires and covers the additional preparation and wear and tear on the motorcycle. 

  • Arctic Circle and Arctic Ocean in Alaska 
    • Renters traveling North of the Arctic Circle in Alaska must disclose their intentions before departing. Failure to disclose travel North of the Arctic circle will result in complete loss of the Damage Security Deposit. Disclosure and permission for riding a MotoQuest rental motorcycle North of the Arctic Circle is defined by paying the Dalton Highway Surcharge of $600. This includes knobbie style tires and covers the additional preparation and wear and tear on the motorcycle.
    • Riders must also travel no more than 300 miles a day on the Dalton Highway. Minimum Arctic Ocean bound rental from Anchorage is six days. 

  • Dempster Highway and Inuvik, Canada 
    • Renters traveling on rental motorcycles are not permitted to travel the Dempster Highway in Canada. Traveling the Dempster Highway will result in complete loss of the Damage Security Deposit. 

  • Canada 
    • Renters are allowed to take MotoQuest rental motorcycles into Canada. It is the renters responsibility to disclose travel to Canada. It is also the renters responsibility to understand what documents or permissions are needed for the individual riding the motorcycle to enter Canada. MotoQuest is not responsible financially or otherwise for disruptions in travel as a result of refusal of entry into Canada.
    • Canadian Residents re-entering Canada on a United States-based rental vehicle are responsible for making sure they are in accordance with Memorandum D2-4-1 reviewing restrictions that prevent residents of Canada from temporarily importing a United States-based rental vehicle. 

  • Mexico – Baja Peninsula Mexico 
    • Renters are allowed to take MotoQuest rental motorcycles into Baja Mexico. It is the renters responsibility to disclose travel plans and obtain permission from MotoQuest for travel into Mexico. A $25.00 per day Baja Surcharge Fee will be added to the rental charge for everyday of the rental regardless of the actual duration spent in Baja Mexico. This fee includes the necessary insurance and the accompanying administrative work for the motorcycle to enter Baja Mexico. It is also the renters responsibility to understand what documents or permissions are needed for the individual riding the motorcycle to enter Baja Mexico. Riders intending to spend more than 7 days in Baja Mexico or pass into Southern Baja you will need a FMM Tourist Permit. Obtaining the permit is the responsibility of the renter. MotoQuest is not responsible financially or otherwise for disruptions in travel as a result of refusal of entry into Mexico. Obtain permission for entry into Mexico on a MotoQuest rental motorcycle by purchasing the Baja Surcharge from MotoQuest.   • Mexico – Mainland Mexico 
    • Renters traveling on rental motorcycles are not permitted to travel mainland Mexico. Mainland Mexico requires a temporary vehicle import permit (TVIP) which MotoQuest will not allow you to obtain on our motorcycles. Traveling into mainland Mexico will result in complete loss of the Damage Security Deposit.

Late Charges

A $50 per hour penalty is assessed if the motorcycle is returned late from scheduled drop off time. MotoQuest is known to be understanding with late returns as long as riders communicate regularly on their anticipated arrival time.

Cancellations, Credits, and Refunds 

  • Cancellation – MotoQuest rentals must be canceled in writing to our email address info@motoquest.com. Please include your full name and reservation number.
    • Cancellations initiated by the rider with more than 30 days notice, deposit and any balance payments are nonrefundable but fully transferable to another invoice with MotoQuest within one year. The funds will be held as a credit.
    • Cancellations initiated by the rider with less than 30 days notice, deposit and balance are forfeited as a cancellation fee.
    • Cancellations initiated by the rider during the rental will not result in any refund or credit. No refunds or credits for early returns.

  • Refunds – All deposits and balance payments are final and non-refundable.If you would like to protect your deposit and balance as well as other travel plans please consider trip interruption and travel insurance through your credit card or a third party. MotoQuest is not responsible for a participant’s inability to attend a rental due to any circumstance whether it be health, family or environmental.
    • Requests for refunds will be reviewed by MotoQuest Customer Service, and will be at the sole discretion of the company.

  • Credits
    • Credits can only be applied towards the balance of a rental or tour and can not be used as a new deposit.
    • Credits expire one year after being issued.

Insurance and Damage Waivers

  • State and Country Mandatory Liability Insurance is included in your rental. This is what is required for the motorcycle to operate legally on the road.

  • All Theft and Damage Waivers and Supplemental Liability Insurance options are subject to the express terms and conditions of the rental contract and do not include coverage for injury, personal property, or damage as the result of negligence such as illegal use or use of rental while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. A Police Report is required for all damages or accidents. All damages to rented motorcycle without a police report will be considered to be at the fault of the Renter.
    • Level 1 Damage Waiver (Compulsory) – Level 1 Damage Waiver (L1DW) All MotoQuest rentals are charged a mandatory $15 a day Level 1 Damage Waiver. L1DW limits the financial responsibility to the renter regarding damage or theft of the motorcycle to the level listed in the L1DW column on the location specific rental table. L1DW limits are only eligible as long as the terms and conditions here and in the rental agreement are upheld. 

    • Level 2 Damage Waiver (Optional) MotoQuest does offer an option to lower your financial responsibility for theft and damage. By paying an additional $20 a day you can limit your financial responsibility regarding damage or theft of the motorcycle to the level listed in the L2DW column on the location specific rental table. L2DW limits are only eligible as long as the terms and conditions here and in the rental agreement are upheld. 

    • Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) USA ONLY – $6.95 Per Day: When you accept SLI the policy provides you with excess coverage for the difference between the provided state minimum requirement mandated by the applicable insurance jurisdiction and $300,000. Property Damage limitation is $50,000 on any claim and this limit is included in the total liability limit of $300,000. Policy limits are in excess of any/all valid and collectible underlying insurance. If there is any other valid and collectible insurance in effect (i.e. personal automobile liability coverage) then the available protection under the SLI coverage would be reduced by the amount of the underlying insurance.

    • Using your own Insurance – If you plan to use your own insurance please carefully check with your insurance provider as motorcycle rentals are considered an exotic rental that most credit cards and insurance companies do not cover the same way as they would with normal vehicle rentals. Always check your credit company or insurance company for coverage before making an assumption.
      • In the event the motorcycle is damaged MotoQuest will charge you the appropriate rate as outlined in these Terms and Conditions and a receipt will be given for the charge. The receipt can be used to make a claim with your personal insurance company. MotoQuest does not interface with your private insurance company. This is your responsibility.

Guided Tour Terms & Conditions

  • Registration
    • Submitting a registration form does not confirm availability nor participation on a tour
      • MotoQuest requires a $1,000 USD non-refundable deposit per participant at the time of booking.

  • Motorcycle rental within a guided motorcycle tour
    • Rider is also subject to the MotoQuest Rental Terms & Conditions when using one of our rental motorcycles on a guided motorcycle tour or as part of a package including one of our rental motorcycles.

  • Double Occupancy Policy
    • Those electing to register for double occupancy are receiving a discount in exchange for sharing a room with a roommate each night of the trip. In the event that a roommate does not materialise for you, you will be required to upgrade to single occupancy thirty days ahead of arrival day.

  • Cancellation Policy
    • Unless otherwise specified below, all funds paid towards participation in a tour are nonrefundable. If you would like to protect your deposit and balance as well as other travel plans please consider trip interruption and travel insurance through your credit card or a third party. MotoQuest is not responsible for a participant’s inability to attend a tour due to any circumstance whether it be health, family, or environmental.
    • If a tour is cancelled by MotoQuest ahead of departure due to a lack of participation, all deposits and balance payments are 100% transferable and refundable.
    • Cancellations initiated by the participant received in writing to info@motoquest.com with more than 60 days’ notice before the tour start date will receive all funds paid as a credit to be used towards future tours or services with MotoQuest. This credit expires twelve months after the date on which the credit is issued and becomes nontransferable once applied.
    • Cancellations initiated by the participant received in writing to info@motoquest.com with 60 or less days’ notice before the tour start date will forfeit their deposit as a cancellation fee. Any funds paid above and beyond the deposit amount will be held on file as a credit to be used towards future tours and services with MotoQuest. This credit expires twelve months after the date on which the credit is issued and becomes nontransferable once applied.
    • Cancellations initiated by the participant received in writing to info@motoquest.com with 30 or less days’ notice before the tour start date will invoke the forfeiture of all funds paid as a cancellation fee.
    • MotoQuest reserves the right to cancel a participant’s participation in a tour if the participant is disruptive or putting themselves or others in harm’s way. No refund or credit will be issued
