MotoQuest founder Phil Freeman would like to tell you a bit about his experience scouting in Colorado last fall.
It sounds cliche to be floating on gravel, standing on your pegs on a BMW GS, billowing through a tunnel of aspen foliage while you pan left to right, soaking up mountain peaks to rustic ranch landscapes as you sing John Denver’s “Rocky Mountain High” to yourself..
But unfortunately, that is how pathetic I was when scouting our Colorado Rocky Mountain High Explorer last year. From ski town to ski town we traversed, seeking out scenic backroads, surrounding ourselves with natural grandeur that only Colorado can deliver.
I love gravel roads and the far away destinations they bring you to. I love the serenity of nature and to be inspired by what only tall mountain peaks can provide. I tingle when I pass an abandoned mine, a place of unprecedented effort in days of yore. I love catching on the wind a quotidian conversation between locals at an out-of-the-way diner. I love, and always have, first through fourth gear.
Colorado, hands down, provided all of these delectable sensations.
Join us this September in Colorado to remind yourself just how beautiful, wild and exhilarating it is to explore the Rocky Mountain State. If you like unpaved, off-the-beaten-track roads, vivacious camaraderie, and mountain roads, perhaps you too will be singing in your helmet, even if it is not John Denver.
