Transfagarasan (pronounce it like Transfer-garrison) was originally a military route over the Carpathian Mountains in the Transylvania region of Romania and is widely considered to be one of the top 10 motorcycle roads in the world.
Now that you’ve learned a new word, let’s use it in a sentence. Repeat after us… “I am really looking forward to riding the Transfagarasan on the Romaniacs adventure.” Great job! Let’s hear more about how this adventure came to be.
Romaniacs Adventure
July 15, 2020 – July 27, 2020
July 14, 2021 – July 26, 2021
When gathering ingredients to a delicious meal, one must consider the balance of the meal: the types of vegetables, sides, main course, spices, etc. When you finish the last bite of a great meal, all of those elements come into play and that meal will last in your memory banks for the long term. You will look back on that meal with a smile.
When we put together a motorcycle ride at MotoQuest, we go about it as if we are trying to prepare that memorable meal. We try to gather all sorts of elements so that the ride is not only point A to B, but it has some kind of variety and balance that makes you look back at it with similar reverence.
In the case of Romania, it’s not just that we are riding Romania. Of course, we wanted it to include the best roads but not only that, we wanted our best guide, a local (Ovi Puia), leading it. We also wanted riders to stay at historic towns, visit unique places, and witness special events like the Red Bull Romaniacs Hard Enduro.
(Ovi on the Romania Scout Trip)
One of the main ingredients of this great ride is the opportunity to ride the Transfagarasan (did you remember how to pronounce it?). It is widely considered to be one of the best motorcycling roads in the world. “One of the Top Ten in the World”, they say. Even Top Gear has featured it before.
During our Romaniacs Adventure, we stay one evening on the north side of the pass, on the road itself. The first thing you do the following day is RIDE THAT ROAD. How cool is that? And, as we have 5 days in Sibiu, you will have another chance to RIDE IT AGAIN.
We don’t always stay 5 nights in one place, but when we do, there is a good reason for it. From Sibiu, you can not only ride the Tranfagarasan, but you can ride another top road – the Transalpina. On top of that, you can opt to watch the unbelievable Romaniacs Hard Enduro. All of this is from one beautiful and historic city.
History abounds in Romania, but between destinations, there is nothing like mountains, forests, and winding roads. This is where our Romaniacs Adventure really delivers.
So, if you are intrigued with castles, mountains, world-class roads, and extreme enduro events, consider joining our Romaniacs this July. If there were ever a time to have no regrets on deciding on a motorcycle trip, this would be it.
But don’t wait too long to decide your trip, there are only handful of BMW G650 motorcycles left for this ride. And for those looking to upgrade, we still have one BMW F850GS (+$715.00) and a pair of BMW R1200GS AC (+$825.00) available.
Do you hear that ring? The Carpathian Mountains in Romania are calling. Answer the phone!
