The ride to Prudhoe Bay is one of the crown jewels of adventure motorcycle travel. If you want to ride as far north on the North American continent, love adversity, welcome challenging roads, enjoy phenomenal scenery and look forward to the ability to say “Been There, Done That” for the rest of your life, then the ride to Prudhoe Bay is a MUST.

I (Phil) have ridden to Prudhoe Bay perhaps more than anyone in the world, and every time I go, I always get this awestruck feeling of solitude in a vast landscape of untouched wilderness. It literally takes your breath away. But with that, I do need to point out that this ride is NOT for everyone. Just because there is a road on the map, does not mean that you can simply go there. 

Preparation for bike, body and mind, is essential and detailed planning is a must. You are literally part of the food chain out there. It’s a ride that comes down to the type of tires you choose, the time of year, the tools you need in case you break down, and so on (find out more in the latest Prudhoe Bay video). 

During our Prudhoe Bay Adventure, we have taken into consideration all of these details, and have prepared our motorcycles, lodging, staff and support vehicle to accomplish what is veritably an expedition. We know that there are 250 miles without gas between Coldfoot and Deadhorse, so we top off your gas tank at Atigun Pass in the Brooks Range, at lunch, so you can continue all the way to the Arctic Ocean without pause. We have been successfully taking groups through this far north region for over 15 years.

I have been up and down the Dalton Highway enough to know many riders come unprepared. Because of this I wrote The 10 Do’s and Don’ts of the Dalton for riders who want to attempt this ride on their own. We are all for this, provided that riders do their homework, take their time and travel with companions. We outfit and rent our motorcycles to individual moto travelers all through the summer, so they can take on this challenge. For those who want peace of mind, we offer two Prudhoe Bay Adventure dates this summer: one at the end of May, and one at the end of July. We have been asked which one is better, and it comes down to your tastes. May and early June offer drier weather and less road construction. July offers warmer temperatures and more wildlife viewing. Which one would you prefer? We have a couple of spots left for each one (this Prudhoe Bay video will showcase reasons Phil can’t stop riding this adventure).

We have revamped our Prudhoe Bay Adventure this year and made it even better. It will feature the scenic Denali Highway as an appetizer course. You get to stay out at one of our favorite lodges, Clearwater Mountain Lodge, on the Denali Highway, and soak in the limitless beauty and wildness that only Alaska can deliver. We also re-routed our stops to incorporate Chena Hot Springs Resort on your way south. How nice is that, to soak in thermal hot springs after you have ridden to the far point of the compass? We have even scheduled the last night to be in Talkeetna, Alaska, where you can enjoy a uniquely “Alaskan” interior town, famous for mountain climbers, bush pilots and a Rolodex of hearty types. We all love Talkeetna, and we think you will enjoy it as your last stayover before finishing the trip. 

We are in the enabling business, so we don’t mind whether you choose to go with us or go on your own. Either way, you are going to have a ride that you will never forget. Unless, of course, you are used to traffic jams consisting of a herd of Caribou.

Renting in Anchorage
